On Dr. Tiller, cold blooded murder, and hypocrisy
When I heard the initial news report, that an abortion doctor was gunned down in church on Sunday morning, I frowned. A murder by the hands of a single fanatical madman. It was saddening, but the man was caught, justice would be had.
Then I heard all the people out there who were cheering on the murderer, saw the comments from people lauding this killer as a hero.
That . . . well, that made me angry.
My own opinions regarding abortion have always been rather mixed. I firmly believe that all women should have the right to choose, but I’ll admit that the idea of late term abortions bothers me, unless done to save the mother’s life. However, that is not the point of this post. No . . . I want to point out just how immoral, hypocritical, and just downright wrong to defend the gunman for what he has done, to attempt to justify his actions and even turn him into some sort of right-wing hero.
Regardless of how you feel about the issue, how can any rational and moral person defend a murderer for gunning down a man in front of his wife and daughter? The very fact that these same people would be tearing down this man and wanting him destroyed if his skin were a little tanner and his accent a little different just illustrates the absolute hypocrisy of these fundamentalist religionists – regardless of what religion. It tends to go like this…. “If it’s in the name of my god and in support of my beliefs, then it’s alright to kill, but if it’s in the name of any other god, they’re terrorists!”
Here’s an example for you:
“Christian fundamentalist guns down doctor in church, citing religious beliefs as justification.”
Now let’s change one word in that sentence:
“Muslim fundamentalist guns down doctor in church, citing religious beliefs as justification.”
Because there’s the crux of it. The same people who are praising the murderer today would be clamoring for his head had he been a terrorist of another sort.
Murder is murder, regardless of the color of your skin, what religion you may believe in, or where you live. It is never justified to gun down an unarmed man, in a peaceful setting and place, let alone in the house of the very God you claim to be defending by breaking the very laws He set down.

One small word is all it takes to make a difference in how people view things. Sadly there are too many people out there who believe that others deserve death or worse for something they do or believe in. I most definitely agree with your take on this issue. In face when I saw a news article on it, this was the first thing to pop in my head; a few religious fanatics are going to be dancing in the street over this man’s death.
